15. The Monday Break(Through) 009 - Embracing Change

Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of the Monday Break(Through), a quick dose of insight and inspiration to kickstart your week.

Today, I want to talk about something that’s constant yet so difficult for many of us to accept: change.

Let’s take Instagram’s new profile design update as an example. It seems to have stirred up a lot of conversation, especially within the design community. And honestly, I get it—when something you’ve become so used to suddenly shifts, it’s uncomfortable. The square grid was there for years, and a lot of us adapted our work to fit that. You could even say we’ve been limited by the square for such a long time that we actually got used to it. But change is inevitable, whether it’s in social media interfaces, design trends, the tools we use, or life itself. No matter what you do and where you are in your life, you can be sure that things will change.

And the thing about change is that it’s rarely just about the thing itself—it’s actually more about the discomfort it brings. It’s like an interruption to our sense of control, and it usually comes by surprise: unannounced, swift, and uncontrollable. But it’s in those moments—through these interruptions—that our growth happens.

When Instagram—or any platform—introduces a redesign, it forces us to reassess how we engage with it. It pushes us to think differently, to adapt, to step out of the square. And while I do understand that the initial reaction might be frustration or resistance, it’s right there, outside of the box, outside of the square, where creativity thrives!

We all have those gut reactions to changes we don’t like. But maybe the challenge is to pause and ask, “How can I use this change to my advantage?” Instead of clinging to the familiar, how can we explore new possibilities?

So here’s my breakthrough for the week: Don’t fight change—embrace it. Whether it’s a new layout on Instagram or a shift in your personal or professional life, lean into the discomfort. That’s where the breakthrough happens. And who knows? A change you dislike today might end up inspiring your next big idea tomorrow.

Thanks for listening to this week’s Monday Break(Through). Let me know your thoughts on Instagram’s new design or how you deal with change in general. Let’s keep the conversation going. Until next time, stay open, stay curious, and have a great week!
